Officials said the barometric pressure near the eye of the storm was 897 millibars, a lower reading than Hurricane Katrina, which slammed into the Gulf Coast August 29.

Only Hurricane Gilbert in 1988 (888 mb), which struck Jamaica and the Yucatan Peninsula, and the Labor Day hurricane of 1935 (892 mb), which hit the Florida Keys, had lower pressures.

for some reason, I think that's what a lot of people in new orleans thought, look where they are now. If i were you, i'd pack up and get the hell outta dodge.
Better safe than sorry.

I for one am glad, for all the people in texas, that it's dieing.

Galveston is fucked no matter how you look at it, but the more it dies the better chance of people inland will be safe.

dallas is 5 hours inland. not 5 feet.
dallas will be fine.
some wind and rain sure, but i doubt even a roof comes off there.

I'm talking about Houston and the outlying areas, brainiac.

who cares about people - I want my oil to be safe. :)

I'll go down and hold sections of pipe together if I could. But either way, the Oil Tycoons WILL make more profit from this.

Texans are whole lot sturdier of a people than the predominantly haitian / gay populace in New Orleans.
