Acoustic waves are how you tune an exhaust. Pipe length, diameter, and primary design can all be tuned to a specific RPM band.

This is much more prevalent in the world of 2 strokes. Its MUCH harder to create a true tuned exhaust for a 4 stroke. Its more of an art than a science and requires a lot of work which is why the price is so high. Is it worth it? Not to me, but maybe to others.
