i bought this hatch with the swap in it. the block was a ZC
i changed it with a D16a8 block. at first i was having problems
starting it, it would crank but it wouldnt start. i found out
my thermostat grounding was off, i connected it
and bam she turned on. but she sounded like shit.
like she sounds like she wants to turn off, and it sounds very ugly lol.

My check engine light is now on. and it shuts off by it self
i thought it needed more oil, i put another quart in it so it has a total of 4 quarts of oil, i put water in he radiator until i can get some anti freeze.

any comments or suggestions help? please?

Find out what check engine code you are having and go from there.you do know how to check codes right? Go to refrence section of this forum and select engine codes for all details.

just pull back the carpet on the passenger side and look at the top of the ECU - should see a flashing red LED - just count the number of times it flashes between pauses - this is the code (could have multiple codes)

A dohc zc head will only work with a dohc zc block. what you have WILL NOT work

i bet you slapped all of your valves and broke the retainers the ZC is an engine that stands alone. only a few things like tune up things swap over (s.plugs and wires, water pump, gaskets) some mechanical items too(oil pump, rods) but not the head, its cams or cam gears

the JDM DOHC ZC and the European D16A8, D16A9 and D16Z5 are all the same engines as far as blocks and heads - JDM DOHC ZC head on D16A8 block, no problem
