Scuffed Piston

when i was putting my rings on earlier(itr pistons) i noticed the walls were scuffed in a few places. i'm wonderin if there was a proper method to sand the sides of the piston to insure a smooth surface? what should i use? (sorry for the pics, the scuffs are above the pin area)

There should be a cross-hatch pattern when you "sand"/hone the cylinder walls

I'd take them to a machine shop and have them clean them up and balance them again.
