Hey, this is my first post. I just turned 16 and need a car. My friend pointed me towards the Civic SI. He says its alot better than stock Civic. I would like to know if it is ok for a starter car. my dad says he will teach me to drive a stick if i get it.

P.S. are there any other cars I should look at? I have a $12,000 limit.

that would be a decent car if it hast already been ragged on. there are a ton of after market parts for it too. for that much money i would rather get a gsr integra.

the civic si is a great car being that it has to be a 99 or 00 it should not have anything wrong with it mileage should be low too but yeah i would reccommend it to you

I don't think you can get a 6th gen Si for 12K...how about this si?

I like the Del Sol body style. I'll happily take the car, got the keys? ;)

240SX and tons of goodies.

for 12g'z i'd rather get a 92-95 si hatchback for less then 4 then use the rest for new motor and aftermarket parts.......best way to go.......but be carefull......you just getting your lisence and all

I say get a DX or CX or a VX because the SI is almost as heavy as the 4 doors.

If I remember right the 99-00 SI is 2500 lbs give or take a few? Can't remember exactly.

I know it was slightly heavier than my Escort, which was 2458 lbs (stock weight).

It's still lighter than the ohv pushrod 2.2 Crapoliers, which weigh 2638 lbs.

I say do what you want, if you want an SI, get it. It all depends on what you wanna pay for insurance...

Yeah I know but he has 12 grand to spend on a car...which leads me to think that he should buy the newest car possible. I think he could get a 99-00 SI if he wanted with that kinda money.

Buy a $5000 car and invest the rest. You're only 16. Plenty of time to ball later in life.

having 12 grand cash and having that limit to finance is the thing we dont know, so kid tell us whiah it is

he probably has $12K to spend on a car. His parents are probably looking for reliable transportation for him. They are probably NOT going to say "ok son, lets get that 10 year old honda civic and change out a bunch of parts and hope that we don't have any problems"

I'm thinking his parents are wanting to spend the money on a newer complete car with a possible warranty.

I could be wrong !!! <_<

well if that is the case, and most likely it is, then my suggestion would be to get a gsr
