Simple fuel question

I have a 92 civic and I was having trouble with starting it.I recently realized that the fuel pump wasn't getting power so I ran a direct wire to it and I was wondering if the fuel pump stays on when the cars on or does it just turn on to start the car

yes the fuel pump must run constantly for the car to run.

it should be on the accessory circuitry so that the pump primes in key position 1

Makes me think it might be the main relay My fuel pump would not turn on and it was the main relay that needed to be changed.

Yea I think that it is the relay too but for now I ran a direct wire to my fuses so when the key is on the fuel pump will also be on...thanks people
