Speed sensor problem

i have a swapped b18c in my 2000si and a y80 or s80 tranny cant recall..... my speedo's not working...so i got my mechanic to replace it but unfortunately it didnt work but he put a 2000 si vss in a diffferent tranny , do i need a specific sensor for my different tranny? my other thought is that it may possibly be my ecu? i need help i havnt heard vtec in ages!!!

all honda vss's are the same. The only differences is that there are cable and electronic versions but both will fit in any h, f, b, and d series tranny.
