i have a chance to get an SSAutochrome turbo manifold with a T3 flange for my Integra soon. i was wondering if anyone has one of these or have ever used one or even heard about them. are they any good or do they suck? thanks for the feedback!!

they crack and are cheap-

but if braced properly, can be a good thing for cheap.

honestly, unless you're looking for more than 250 whp, i'd stick with a log style

well the guy i am getting it from had it on his car for a month until he blew up his engine. he wants to trade me the turbo mani and the t3 turbo he had for it for my 92 Escort GT, but i told him i wanted to check it all out first before i said yes. i also wanted to get opinions on them too.

that mai and a junkyard t3 turbo is worth liek 400 bucks MAX.... is your car worth that little?

yup the car aint worth much. the turbo is coming off an SVO Mustang and only was used for 1000miles and 8psi of boost on the guys car. the specs of the t3 is .63a/r turbine; .60a/r compressor. he had it on a 91 Integra with NO mods done to the motor to properly run the turbo.

Get it, ditch the manifold on eBay, buy something better.

yea ditch it on ebay thats what im doing i got that same manifold for my turbo ls but i only got it b/c the guy wanted 100 for it and it seems like its in good condition but i put it on ebay last week and sold it for 300 shipped! .you can probably get 250 for it

I don't know why so many people had problems with their SSautochrome manifold... I never had any cracking issues after 6 months :shrug2: just pure luck I guess...

didn't want to risk it though so I went full-race.

My first one cracked after about 2 months.
The wastegate exit tube sheared off the side of the manifold after the merge collector.

SSAC replaced it for free under warranty - had to pay return shipping and nag them until they got their head out of their ass and found the return they "lost." Took 3 weeks after sending it (ridiculous) but... Replacement manifold is certainly of a different design. The shape and angle of the wastegate dump tube has been changed. The welds holding it on look marginally better. I welded a piece of bracing between the wastegate flange and the turbo flange so there is a compressive load - should hold together ok for a while. :) Hopefully more than 2 months this time.

As for the manifold - it blows cast manifolds out of the water. Not for the fiant of heart, not for those who can't weld. For $200 (what I paid for it on ebay) it sure as hell isn't bad. Next time it breaks, I'm going to make one myself but until then I'm happy with what I got.

When I get the pictures of the bracing uploaded, I'll be sure to share.

I just got the turbo monthly special from ssautochrome and the manifold looks good to me. It came to me with two braces welded on between the turbo flange and the part where it bolts to the motor. It also had a brace welded to the wastegate flange and turbo flange.

If I can get a hold of a digital camera, I will post the pics.

In a nutshell, what I added to prevent the wastegate shearing off again like it did last time:

I also did about an hour of grinding with an air grinder and a burr.
This photo (crappy I know) illustrates how unfinished it was when I received it:

In particular, I was very concerned with the leftover pipe bits obstructing the exit of gases from the main chamber, post collector, down the tube to the wastegate flange. Maybe someone who has a manifold "from the factory" can post a picture of this area for comparison's sake - I forgot to take one :(

Final wastegate exit path:

And more pictures if you really care:

I'd really love it if someone with a "stock" SSAC manifold would put up pictures of the WG exit area for comparison.

Oh yeah, fuck the downpipe that is part of their kit. I made a 3" once custom.
