Stall out?

Here is an intresting question from my freind. Has a 93 DX with a D15B with P08 on board. He goes outside to start his car, Car is in 1st Gear, Moves to to nutral, pushes in on the clutch starts the car, and it died almost instant, inless he revs it up and holds it there 20 secs. If he is parked in any other gear, 2-5 and does everything the same he dont need to baby sit it for 20secs any ideas what would cause it to stall out after being parked in 1st gear vs others?

first gear synchronizers could be hanging up, caused by wear and tear and not changing the tranny oil,
if you have a parkign brake, use that and leave it in neutral unless you park on hills all the time, I leave mine in neutral cuz I got remote start.
otherwise your owners manual says put it in reverse to park.
