I filed with Turbotax, prepared, filed electronically, direct deposit etc....

WELL, when I finished I chose to have my fees deducted from my refund. There was nothing saying that this was going to delay my stimulus rebate an INSANE amount. I get an email 5/15 stating:

Dear Valued Customer,

We want to provide you with the most up–to–date information about the tax rebate to which you may be entitled.

Recently, you may have received a letter from the IRS advising you when to expect your Economic Stimulus Payment (rebate). That IRS letter may have inadvertently left off some important information. Taxpayers who chose to have their tax preparation fees deducted from their federal tax refund will receive their tax rebate in the mail, not via direct deposit.

Our records show that you chose this payment option in TurboTax. As a result, the IRS has determined that you will receive your tax rebate in the mail. This may result in you receiving your rebate on a date later than expected.

This situation, while not unique to TurboTax, is understandably causing some concern and confusion. To help further clarify the situation, below is the most current IRS rebate payment processing schedule, as well as additional resources about the tax rebates.

I hope you find this information helpful. If you still have questions, the best source for the most up-to-date information is www.irs.gov (see the "Rebate Payment Questions" link).

What this means for me is instead of having it deposited on the 16th, it will now be mailed out on July 4th.......WTF!!!! Anyone else get this bullshit too??

I called Turbotax to find out why they didnt alert people when filing of this nonsense. They claim they alerted people as soon as they knew, I told her I got my email 5 days ago LOL!! Just a lil too late ;)

Edit: The reasoning, stated from a TurboTax rep:
If you deduct your preperation fees from your refund you go thru the 3rd party bank they use. That bank gets your banking info, sends the tax info to the IRS and they get your refund. They then deduct the fees and deposit it into your account. At no point does the IRS get your banking info, this is why they mail the check. You can NOT call/write the IRS and give them your info to change this even. You just have to wait. If you have 80+ for your last 2 digits, be ready to wait until July sometime for your rebate :(

yeah dude, read the tax rebate thread. this was posted a while ago. it's because your direct deposit was for you tax refund only. The company that does the payments for turbo-tax wasn't prepared for a stimulus check.

i used turbo-tax. got a big refund and wont get my stimulus for a while. hey, it's free money. i'm not going to be picky on when i get it.

They def should of alerted people of this. I always file the sameway, its easy to do that way. I wouldve gladly paid the $35 right then for fees to get my check 2 months earlier. And saying they alerted people was just BS since I got my email the day before I was supposed to get my rebate check.

you're missing it...it's not because you had your fees deducted, it's becuase you used turbo-tax. it's a setup flaw. turbo tax didn't anticipate a refund before taxes were filed.

IMPORTANT
[IMG]In some cases, the IRS has decided that taxpayers can only get their rebates by mail, even if they get their regular tax refunds by direct deposit. At TurboTax, this will happen if you chose to have your tax preparation fees deducted from your refund when filing your 2007 return.

i'm not familiar with the whole situation but i'm guessing its happening to a lot more than just turbo tax people, like people that used H&R Block that got the tax refund anticipation loan aka "instant refund"
the IRS uses the bank info as reported on your return to direct deposit your refund
if you've having fees withdrawn, or had an instant refund (loan) then your refund is being direct deposited into someone else's account, then redirected to you minus the fees, or redirected to H&R's loan dept to pay for your instant refund loan

ooh, and turbo tax sucks

*raises hand* Do we have to specifically file for this refund or will it just automatically be sent to us? I'm a bit confuckted about this and thought it would just be mailed directly to us.

On a side note, I would take free money any time, even if it meant waiting another month or two. :D
