stolen motors

just wondering if neone on hondaswap is using a stolen motor....I have a legit motor and legit everything on my car but here around MA there are alot of theives selling stolen motors for cheap. My question is how would I be caught after buying one of these? ...I mean they have vin numbers on the block but when do they actually check it

A cop may pop your hood or VIN #'s may be checked when you have it tested for smog,

a kid in my town, i dont know him but, he put a b18c5 in his civic for a grand, so even he knew it was stolen. then he heard that they were gonna steal it back so he sold the car. thats the scheme i ussually hear about. who is gonna report their car stolen when they know they had a stolen motor.
