i was looking at a stroker kit for my car (its not a Honda) and i damn near fainted by the price!! HERE is the link to the kit. and NOO the kit wont be going in a Miata, but a Mazda powered Ford Escort GT. that damn kit better be worth the money before i even start saving up for it/one. that kit is still in the R&D phase according to that web site...

**edit** would be going from 1.8L to 2.0L

damn! that shit is dough! you just gotta decide if 200cc is worth $3600 to you.
what kind of racing are you building the car for?

JFC i dont think an escort GT deserves that, cuz i raced one in my shitty 89 DX hatch and beat the crap out of him with a 1.5 sohc pos I'd like to think its my driving skills. the escort GT is a 1.8 dohc right?

yup...has a 1.8L DOHC Mazda BP engine it. makes 127hp stock. not many tuning options for the car, so i have to look for stuff out of a Miata and stuff from a Ford Laser TX-3 which is the same car and engine but comes turbocharged and AWD from the factory...makes 180hp. so this is gonna be a fun, not to mention expensive, project.

doesnt plymouth make the laser?

Plymouth makes a Laser, yes. Ford makes a Laser TX-3. peep here to check out the Ford Laser TX-3: Ford Laser TX-3 site

**edit** the Ford Laser TX-3 and Plymouth Laser are 2 TOTAALY different cars.

would a yamaha 3.0L from an SHO fit in your car. it would be heavy but 220+ hp would be really cool in a light car.

well i know a Probe V6 fits in it and has been done, but i am not sure about an SHO engine

Whats your "pos" 1.5 sohc make? 105 hp? in a 2200 lb car... I think it's probably even with the EGT, OR ...it was an automatic & he just wasn't trying to race you... either way just because you destroyed one, doesn't make it slow.

The EGT is only .5 seconds behind the 2000 Si's in 0-60 and 1/4 mile times. I doubt your 1.5 was even with an Si...stock for stock.

The 1.8 has forged internals from the factory, and it shares the 1.8 with the 90-94 Protege's, ALL 1.8L Miatas, & the 91-95 Mercury Tracer LTS.

It's madly underpowered at what TPP said, 127 hp. But a turbocharged JDM GTX (BPT) has a 180 hp/ 180 tq 1.8L. Which, when dropped into the Escort chassis, can be tuned on the stock internals for upwards of 14 psi or 250 hp with the stock IHI VJ20 (or VJ23) turbocharger.

These cars can be built JUST like any Honda out there. One guy in Florida runs 11.2s on his stock axles, and another guy has his 13 second 325 hp (289 to the wheels) Escort on Ebay.

Sorry I went on and on...before you go putting it down as a POS, just realize people have the same passion for their (old) cars as much as you do yours to build it. I had full plans for the car TPP is talking about, but I got sick of trying to search for shit for it & it got just too damn expensive.

TPP: The extra torque the 200cc's will give you are well worth it IMHO. It'll give you a slightly better compression and will help if you ever decide to turbo it. ;)

not unless you start cuttin out some of the firewall and bumper supports etc. On a unibody car...it's not worth the power, especially (as I said in my last post just a second ago) You can achieve those kinds of power levels out of the 1.8 when you turbo it to 14 psi...on his stock internals. :worthy:

boosting is what i am gonna end up doing to it. i plan on running 8-10psi boost daily on it. and then crank her up to about 15psi at the track. i want AT LEAST 200hp out of it. just taking some careful planning which is what i am doing now. already found some nice cam gears by HKS i wanna get, the TX-3 turbo exhaust manifold and a set of Wiseco pistons are gonna be in its future soon. just a start with plenty more shit to llok for. i have lots of time to do this :)

8-10 psi...depends on the turbo but your goal of 200 hp at that level is so very possible...you'll have around 175-185 whp with a good suspension setup.

which btw...what are you going to do? I know you want my old KYB GR2s, but what kind of springs are you goin for? A real good setup for autox'ing is Tokico S/R 2s and H/R lowering Springs. (from feoa, ask Adam aka Beaverboy)
