this is dave, apparently he likes smart investing and cigars, but he hates socialism and crowd funding

crowd funding strikes me as a legal ponzi scheme, except the people willing give their money knowing there is no return.

A band i like recently got in a wreck. A fan started a fund to get them back on the road after the loss of their van and gear damages.

i threw in $10.

$$$ rolls in
tour continues.

If you're a fan, you appreciate that you get to see them as you wanted to because others made it happen.

These guys aren't Taylor swift. They probably barely break even after gas and beer. they do it for the love of music. I've seen them a few times at small clubs and there's nothing like a $10 show at a 500 person venue.

The return is satisfaction in that you will get to see this movie that otherwise would not have existed.
exactly why i donated. it's mainly to support the creation of the movie.

and ill get a ticket to the movie, some swag and a movie poster (i like big posters).

It's an interesting concept crowd funding. I'm guessing the return on a movie like this for the gents at Broken Lizard would be good but I doubt they(outside of Jay) have that much cash sitting around to invest in things like this. And in the AMA on reddit they addressed how they couldn't get funding anywhere to make "their" movie. All the majors wanted to water down their product and that's not what us fans would want. I get most of it.

Guys like Zach Braff crowd funding his movie are kind of questionable as we know he has serious bank roll. He probably wasn't AS invested into it as his fans were. But
