So I just recently got a Hondata and when I floor my accellerator my tach starts jumping everywhere it starts right around 4500-5000 and then it bounces to 0 and then goes all the way around. I took it to a Tachometer specialist and he was baffled. Does anyone have any ideas what the deal is? All I know is that I do not want one of those 4" tachs with the shift light I want to keep my stock stuff.
Do you guys think it may be something with the ECU? I thought it was my spark plug wires but that was not it. Any ideas? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

It almost seems that the rpms are going too fast for the tach which is obviously not true since my car is slower than hell. Thought this may give a better description of whats going on.

Bad Ground. I semi-have this problem. Or did, I fixed the ground, and everything's dandy.

is it a good tach...(not a cheap knockoff?).....it might be the wiring .....

It is my stock tach in my dash.

tbone had the same problem. its breaking up- not enough to feel it, but enough to see it. check your ignitor.

I know exactly what this could be...

Check 3 things.

1- Ground at the thermostat, make sure there is no corrosion. Also check all the other grounds on the engine/tranny. Look for corroded wiring or loose bolts/nuts

Check and see if this fixes the tach.... if not continue to #2

2- Take your gauge cluster out, tighten ALL the screws down on the back of the cluster. RE-install the wire harness, making SURE it is secure.

Check and see if this fixes the tach.... if not continue to #3

3- Find the TACH input to the ECU, make sure the connection is GOOD and not broken/corroded.

This should fix your problem.

Thanks guys if it ever stops raining here in SoCal I am on it. No garage.
