I HAVE A 89 HF. WHEN IT HAD THE D15B6 IN IT I WOULD TURN IT ON AND WITH IN A MIN OR SO. THE TEMP WOULD GO UP IN THE RED. SENCE THEN I HAVE SWAP OUT TO A D16A6 AND IM STILL GETING THE SAME THING.I WAS JUST WONDERING IF IT WOULD BE IN THE CLUSTER.
probably not in the cluster...haynes says check the following - if you haven't checked these, do it, and if you have but still have the issue, come back and tell us:
- insufficient coolant in system
- water pump drivebelt defective or out of adjustment
- radiator core blocked or grill restricted
- thermostat faulty
- electric cooling fan blades broken or cracked
- radiator cap not maintaining proper pressure
- ignition timing incorrect
the only time i had overheating (same symptom you describe, immediate red zone after startup), one of my radiator hoses was cracked and the cooling system dropped its guts.
