I'm looking into a B18C1 GSR swap for $1000. It's too cheap for a swap so I want to compression test the motor maybe by bringing a battery and jumping the starter.

The kid seems like a dink, when I first called him the motor was in the car then the next day he pulls it out. I said that sucks because I wanted to test it out and he said I promise it's good.

He's sending me pictures, not that it tells me anything.

take it from me, the next time I buy a motor, its:
    1) from HMO
    2) I'm watching him drive in it before he pulls it

Don't "trust" because its a cheap price, my engine is living proof lol

i agree. its better to buy it from a place that stocks motors and gives a guarantee on start up so if it doesnt start, you just go and grab a different one.

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. But even still, the entire swap for $1000? Even if it needs a re-build, thats not a bad deal.

I'm still going to check it out. I'll look at the plugs when I do a compression test.

    Anyone else have more ideas?

Bring a compressor and leak-down tester. No need to jump the starter, and it's a more comprehensive test.

It's just a spark plug adapter right? I can get that from work.

That and a few gauges- one that lets you read the line pressure and one that lets you read the cylinder pressure. You can usually buy a leakdown tester manifold with gauges on it for something like $40 in the right places.

isnt the only thing you can check on a sitting motor is the compression? i was under the impression that you could turn the crank with a socket wrench and measure the psi to see if all cylinders are close to the same, and none of them leak any pressure out.

Turning the crank by hand may be too slow and allow pressure to leak through camming. Though, if it holds pressure is should be fine(constantly hard to turn during a compression stroke). Also, you can hear a distinct exhaust cycle with the exhaust(or in this compressed air) coming out.

take two straws...stick em together then put them in the spark plug hole resting on the piston rotate the crank on each cylinder to tdc watching the straw move slowly till it hits the top..... then do you leak down test on that cylinder...thats how i do it

The motor is still in the car. THIS KID IS FUCKING WITH ME.

So he first contacts me and says I need to get rid of this motor quick. It is still in the car but I'm pulling it out tomorrow. I call him the next day and he said he pulled it out. I said thats too bad because I wanted to test it. Today I came to his house and his dad was there, nice guy and all, and he says he hasn't pulled anything. He didn't have a key but my dads Honda key opened the door. I pop'd the hood and its there. Jasma header, Edlebrock intake manifold, S80 trans (ITR transmission) but the valve cover was leaking oil. The key wouldn't start it though.

I guess his dad told him I was there and he texts me and said, quote off of my cell, Thats wierd, I thought you would have waited like I said, I wanted to be there. I said, well you wanted to get it gone quick so I was hopeing you would be there. Your dad showed us around and he seemed alright with it. Then I said I want to hear it run and do some tests. And it is $1000 right? He says well I have a guy on Friday who will take it for $1500 so $1250. I said no way, you said one grand two days ago. If it falls through give me a call.

Hes pissed at be now because I saw it when he wasn't there. Fuck him.

    wow ya
btw if the valve cover is leaking oil, it sounds like he's one of those retards that watched dragon ball z growing up and can rev his car "over 9000."

    stay awayyyyyyyyyyyyy

He texted me back and said you're worried about $250? The trans alone is worth $1000. Plus I'm still pissed at you because you came when I wasn't there. So $1250 or I have a guy on friday for $1500. I said againg if it falls through I'm here for a grand. He doesn't have another guy. He will phone me on Saturday. :)

thing is with that.... you usually need to have it professionally installed or else they dont warranty it... so that means you can drop the motor in yourself because they can say you did something wrong that messed it up
