odb2 ecu's apparently have a serial number linked to the vin of the vehicle.


Dude i have heard that too. This however is the 2nd confirmed account of somebody using an ecu that is not from their vehicle to pass inspection IN MA that I know of.


Honestly it wouldnt make sense for an ECU to be vehicle specific. From what i have heard it doesnt seem like the MA vehicle insp. system tests this either.
 
it does. this is why my 97 ECU fails. it HAS a serial number. the inspection machine showed it plain as day and it fails VIN check.
 
So . . . if you need a new ecu, you probably have to have a dealership flash your vin onto it.
 
couldnt tell ya. all i know is it worked!
 
wow weird coincidence this thread..

I just wrote about my laser print of the entire license plate in another thread. Since the print was a match for the actual plate that really belonged on the car (the real one was pulling other duty at the time) it came up fine when they ran it.
