Exactly. I've had a computer mounted in the car before, custom built power supply and everything so it could run off the cigarette lighter and a custom box so I could slide it under the seat... but the hardware available on the market now would make it even easier to build this time around. Having a computer in the car would allow me to do datalogging off the Hondata too. I could easily wire up a simple keypad with preset messages to flash on the display- that's not too hard.

go for it dude. i wanna see this shit

why did you have a computer mounted in your car?

Brian- :p :p :p :p :p

Yes, I am one of the biggest nerds out of the group around here... most of my EE friends think I should have been EE instead of ME, since I easily outrun more than half the EEs that graduated UT.

Yes, the computer was for MP3s- back before MP3 players were available for cars... but I didn't use it much, since I never liked the sound quality of MP3s over the real deal, and I always spent way too much making my car sound good to settle for something with that level of distortion in it. My old buddy gutted mine for parts on his MP3 player, and he even wired up an infrared interface so that he could use a standard remote control with it and call up different playlists without a keyboard and keypad.

:D

Nothing wrong with computers in cars.. we were thinking about putting one into the cobra to control everything, tuning on the fly, n2o setup, mp3's, etc. etc. with a touch screen.. but the cars gone :(

Hey Khris...remember that guy who would drive around V-Town playing porno on his TV?

There was a guy that would drive around the town I used to live in (where Khris lives now) and play prono on this huge ass TV in his car. I seen him at least 5 times doing this. The only time you ever seen him was at night...most of the time around 12:00 or so.

I've got an in-dash cd player that plays MP3's now, and I have a seperate collection of songs I use for the car that are 192kbps minimum, most are 320. It's not as bad with the bitrate raised up a little.

What I want is an MP3 computer in the car that has wireless access so the car can update its song collection from my PC automatically every time it's in the garage. :)

the car was raced nightly on the street, multiple times for hours and hours and seen the track very frequently.. it takes 6 hrs to pull the t-56 and replace it, according to the dealer.

Yeah exactly... I've got a top line Alpine unit that does awesome MP3 decoding, and its outputs are a lot cleaner than a hacked up cheapo computer running off an unregulated power supply and a cheapo sound card. You can get boards now that will push super clean sound without an add-on card, but that wasn't available 1.5 years ago. I still prefer raw audio data though- no compression.
