throttle body upgrade?

having too large a throttle will actually hurt performance. your not reading enough or you would have found that out already. it must be matched appropriately to intake/camshaft/header flow rates.

what size would be a good all around size then? 58mm? 5mm more than stock isn't that big of a jump though. it seems like it would just help air flow a little and not hurt anything else at all. 5mm is only like 1/8" all the way around. let me know if you have first have experience you know because i'm still learning. i know too big is bad, but that doesn't seem like too big of a jump. i have i/h/e and will be doing the y8 manifold and head. the tb seems like it would be a good match. thanks guys

I have no first hand experiance with that, but you should talk to an experianced engine builder. They will tell you that even the intake plenum and runners should suit the cam profile and aspiration characteristics of the motor. Once again, you need more than just intake/header. Camshafts largely dictate this as well. I'm saying to take the tip from me, do more research on that topic, because I do not know all the facts off hand like that, but the information exists out there. You can try evans tuning :: efi tuning specialists for some info, and maybe give them a call to discuss those changes. You have to do some flow calculating. Building a motor involves lots of physics and requires a concise understanding of what's taking place inside. Your taking wild guesses and wasting money. Take your time, do it right the first time, like everyone and myself have been saying.

i had a reply on "evans tuning" saying to use the gsr throttle body and port match it to my y8 manifold. i'm still wondering about the throttle wheel though. i think i'm going to be picking up the gsr throttle body today along with a junk a6 throttle body that i can see if i can use the throttle wheel off of. does anybody know if the gsr will bolt up with no problems at all? meaning, will the wheel work fine with my throttle cable and will there be any other things i'll need to do besides extend the map sensor wires. thanks

No I urge you to seek professional advice, not forum advice. I found your post on evans tuning. They have tech articles too, but I'm thinking this may not be one thing they have an article on. Call them. Get professional advice.

You are honestly not going to see much, if any gain going to a larger throttle body on that set-up. If you want to do it still use the 60mm and port match the intake manifold to that size.

so the guy that answered my question on the post on the other forum, he's the owner or whatever and has tuned over a thousand cars. and he's telling me to use the gsr throttle body and port match it to the manifold. he said it's not that big of a jump from my stock 55mm and even less of a jump than the stock y8 combination from civic ex's with a 56mm throttle body. i figured he knows more than anybody, so i'm gonna go for it. thanks for the help, input, and great discussion. i really like learning new things and you guys are really helping with a lot of that, thanks a lot guys

Havent been on in a minute and didnt feel like reading through all the BS, but Im using a Y7 TB gasket on my OBD0 B16. :dunno:

what're you referring to though? are you telling me that it doesn't really matter what gasket i use? well the round opening has to be large enough to atleast the same size if not a little bigger than the throttle body and manifold openings

so i know i REALLY need to port match my TB to my IM. also, i noticed that on the top of the a6 TB there's an attachment for the charcoal canister but there isn't an attachment on the gsr TB. what should i do to fix this? is it just a vacuum on the TB? thanks guys

I was getting at that from my experience D-series and B-series TBs interchange, and you can remove the charcoal canister without problems, I think Andrew has a write up on it.

i read his thread, well some of the mass anyways lol. i couldn't really find anything i was looking for. i noticed he didn't have a charcoal canister in his catch can section. if anybody else can let me know about the throttle body and charcoal canister it would be greatly appreciated. do i just need to run vacuum to the red hose that goes to the charcoal canister? thanks
