I have a 2001 Honda Civic Ex and im running it on some 17" wheels. The tire size that I have on it is the 205/40/17 but it doesnt have as much meat on it as I would like. Im in the market for some new ones so I was thinking I would go with a 205/45/17 or even 205/50/17. I would more likely go with the 205/45/17. Would this be a good idea? Will I even notice the difference? Thanks.

If you want better grip on the take off you should sell those rims and get something a little smaller. I think 16' rims are the biggest you should go if you want performance, anything bigger is more for style on a civic. As for an actual answer to your question you ssould go with a size that will give you as close of a tire diameter as the stock tires. Anything bigger or smaller will throw off your speedometer. It may not throw it off by much in low gears but in higher gears it will make even more of a differance, especialy at high speeds.

A 17 on the new 2001+ Civics will give you more sidewall than a 16 on an 88-00 Civic.

A 215/40/16 is almost ideal for a 16 incher on an 88-00 Civic as is a 205/35/17, but the taller stock tire size on the 2001+ Civic EX (185/65/15) would require you to run a 215/50/16 to be almost perfect. With a 17 inch wheel, you would want to run 215/45/17. You'd be running a wider tire and still a taller sidewall than with even a 15 inch wheel on an older Civic, so you're still fine.

Cool thanks. I went with the 215/45/17 and that looks and feels exactly like I wanted it.
