Is it possible to use a TODA VTEC Killer Cam on a SOHC d16a6? I have a 89 CRX and am wanting to put one in it. If not, any ideas on what motor to swap? I was thinkin a b16

    umm no.

as far as motor swap yes do a B16. good budget swap with plenty of available supply.
you can build it further if you want more torque.

Ya after I posted that I realized how dumb the question was. I want to put a b16 in it but unfortunately I'm a in school so I have a low budget.

If you're on a budget and want power, turbo your D16A6. All the "VTEC Killers" are anyways is a set of VTEC cams that only have the profile for the VTEC lobe. Any really aggressive single profile cam would approximate a typical "VTEC Killer" cam. There are quite a few for the D16A6 that will perform similarly.

What would those cams be? And if I was to boost the d16 do you have any ideas for other parts for it. Such as rods, pistons, etc.

just boost it stock. They are strong enough as long as you tune it right but you have to do some leg work on research to find out what YOU want to get out of it. If you blow it up, guess what you can get another one for less than 500 bucks.

size of the turbo and your power goals with be something to seriously research.
you may find a turbo kit already fabbed up on here.

I think I'm gonna stick with the d16 but what aggressive cams are there that will give it that VTEC killer tone. And what exhausts can I get to make it have a deep sound, not that pissed off weedeater sound. Lol

    Here- try these:

Level X, D-series hardweld, non-vtec - $729.00 : Bisimoto Engineering, Where Efficiency Meets Technological Perfection

    D16A6/D15B7 Stage 4 - Kobe Special [KobeA6] - $250.00 : Exospeed Racing Products, Founded by Import Racers

One of those will give you a lopey idle and require you to keep your foot halfway down on the gas to not have your engine die at at stoplight.

Then run a custom 4 inch exhaust with the largest resonator and muffler you can fit into it, preferably something with baffles in it like a Flowmaster Delta series. That'll kill all the high pitch noise.

    Good luck.

Ok. If I was to fully build the d16a6 and boost it how much horsepower could I get?. I'm thinking of putting the z6 head on it

What do you want to do with this car is the better question.
Have you ever driven a 200HP or similar Honda? have you ever driven a turbo charged honda?

By the way, i thought you were sticking with a B series?

Nah. I changed my mind and I'm sticking with the d. Is anyone here in Ohio? Like the Cincinnati area?

You're never going to get the same tone as you would from a dual cam vtec set up. DOHC VTEC engine have Vtec lobes on both the intake and exhaust cams. With a SOHC, it's on the intake side only. Expect to be able to hear it but it's not gonna "pop" like a DOHC engine does.

"Fully build?" People have gotten over 500whp on pump gas. Bisi has done over 700whp on a street driven setup running race gas.

But with monster lobes on a custom cam, you can get that "tone" on any SOHC engine.

You need to tell us what your budget is here, and then we will tell you what you can realistically hope to accomplish. You say you can't afford a B-swap, yet you're talking about building your D and adding a turbo kit? All of that is not going to cost less than an engine swap...

Well, I was thinking about buying a coupe that's already turboed. But I don't like coupes. So I'm not sure. And I honestly don't know what my budget completely is. I get 2-300 a week so not real big. Lol. B series would be nice to swap and then build. But it would take a while for meyou to getyou everything and idk. Think I should build a b on the side?

    Eh.

Just answering the guy's question about the VTEC killer style cam in the SOHC. Not gonna e-build an engine for him. ;)

If I were you I would start small. it seems you're not too sure so What I recommend is to start small, get your hands dirty and learn from it.

Mini me swap with a Z6 head and see how that feels. very simple and plenty of available parts.
if you crave more power then spray it or boost it. if you crave for more then swap the D for a B later on but at least you 'll know the basics from motor mounts, build, tuning, compression, wiring, chassis/parts interchange and much more.

    good luck
