This is absolutely terrible!
In Florida, 8 year old Colton Guthrie thought it would be a great idea to donate his turtle to the local aquarium since it had outgrown its tank. With the aquarium only being a short drive from home, he had hoped to be able to visit often.
Workers at the aquarium placed the turtle, a red-eared slider in the alligator exhibit, where two other red-ears already lived.
To Colton's horror, one of the alligator came up and immediately put the turtle in it's mouth. Colton's mother, Brenda, explained her son's reaction, "He was jumping up and down screaming. He was shouting, ‘Oh no alligator, let it go.’ ”
She said they turned around to only hear the crunch of the shell.
How awful!
Until this incident, an alligator had never eaten a turtle at the exhibit.
We don't even know what to say! We're sorry for Colton's loss and hope he can replace his turtle soon!
