the body is made by ford, but just like with 2nd generation Escorts the underpinnings, motor, transmissin and suspension setup is all done by mazda.
 
my buddy had an early 90's cavalier with a stock mazda motor

i dunno what that has to do with this thread, but i just remembered it :D

Eh? I thought that's what I just said... the boxier body styles were done by Mazda, and the rounder generations were done by Ford.
