the body is made by ford, but just like with 2nd generation Escorts the underpinnings, motor, transmissin and suspension setup is all done by mazda.

Eh? I thought that's what I just said... the boxier body styles were done by Mazda, and the rounder generations were done by Ford.

Nice. I'm a temporary abnormal minitrucker... no bagging or crazy body mods for me. I do love the Hardbody though.
