Did a search and couldn't find anything but wondering if anyone has experience with trans shaft bearing problems and such.
B16 5 spd in neutral and in gear making a hushed grinding or draggin sound. Push in the clutch and it goes away. Rev the engive with cluth depressed and engine purs without a noise.
Does this sound like a bearing in the trans is giving out? Don't know all the workings of the trans but assume the main shaft is spinning on its bearing when the car is in neutral.
Thanks

the input and output shaft gears are in constant mesh but i dont know if the output shaft spins when in neutra but the input shaft is aways spining with the clutch engaged, pedal up. so, 1 it could be the input shaft bearing or 2 replace input and output shaft bearing.

so it makes the noise when the car is engaged in gear AND when the car is not in gear but the clutch pedal is up?

Right, the noise is made when in gear with the clutch pedal up and when in neutral with the clutch pedal up.

Thanks, but how could it be the throwout bearing when the noise goes away when the throwout bearing is engaged and the clutch is depressed. This is just the opposite. No noise when clutch in and throwout bearing engaged. Noise when clutch released, in neurtral or while in gear. My tendancy is to think input shaft bearing but only if it spins while the trans is in neutral. Anyone know?
