...has a job!
Any ideas for an often over-looked semi-bargain, semi-reliable turbo car (no DSMs). I'm thinking of picking up a fixer-upper for a daily. I've been looking at other people's abandoned Honda projects but I'm not really sure if that's what I want to do this time around. Scoob? Saab?

Edit: I've wanted a Volvo V70 wagon for a long time. Maybe now would be a good time to grab one??

The greatest and least known secret of the Turbo car market is the 92 Plymouth Laser.

They use the shelf parts that the other companies didn't want. Result ? No sunroof (massive weight savings in those things) 5 speeds with front and rear LSD and a NASTY AWD setup. It's just about perfect.

My other choice is the 1989 Subaru RX4 Turbo. 10 forward gears, AWD. Those turbos are actually reliable too.

The SAAB things have wicked wastegates. They take forever to spool and immediately redline.

My opinions, Celerity (C) 2011.

EDIT: Oh, and my favorite of all time. The 1989 Pontiac / McLaren Turbo Grand Prix. Not easy to find, not cheap. Needs aftermarket crossover pipe and heat shielding. Auto only. Also, will do 165 out of the box and rides like a limo. 22 way adjustable seats and McLaren tuned suspension, hand-picked transmissions and engines. Invented the 3.1 V6 for the project. 2000 made.

EDIT: I forgot what my track times were with the car and had to look up my old posts: https://hondaswap.com/other-vehicle-discussions/went-track-xd-87742/

MPH - 83.37
1000 - 11.247

I used to like those things until I saw a Cosworth Escort.

My friend just picked one up for $800. It had been sitting in a barn for over 15 years. We drained the tank, threw on a new battery, brakes, and tires. It's basically an SVO mustang with less weight, better interior, and IRS. His has a catless borla exhaust, intercooler, and a chip that says 230/260. It is FUN!

Good feedback guys.

I purchased a Laser with a blown head gasket once. Tore it down to the nuts and bolts for a complete rebuild, then quickly got rid of it and swore I would never touch one again. They are pure garbage and are engineered as if a 6 year old with a lego set designed them...maybe worse. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING will come off/out of that car without first removing at least 20 other things that are attached to it somehow. I have never known them to be reliable. I don't mind eurotrash that I have to fix constantly, but the pure destruction that are the DSMs...nope.

I would be interested in a Saab.

The 5 speed V70s are really hard to find so that kind of eliminates those.

Moral or the story = I shoulda bought a V8. :p

Its been so long since I owned that car that I forgot what it could do. Had to look up my old posts. 14.32 didnt sound right lol.

Felt like it could have been faster with something other than stock wheels and tires. Car did have a kaaz 2 way on it which was awesome.

Factory Turbo, I believe is the goal here.

And yes, DSMs suck major balls. I'm glad to see you have the same conclusions.
