far less of those then you might imagine. The catholic church is closing churches and schools in this country left and right.

The 'sticks' are absolutely huge. There aren't many religious wackos in cities or other populated areas, but they're dispersed out over those huge swaths of land that make up this country (which is a huge amount of the total land on the planet). If they didn't add up to a ginourmous amount (and near majority) of voters, our Presidential campaigns might actually have a few facts interspersed among the bullcrap instead of coming down to a contest about who's got the most god in them.
Even just a few per area can add up tremendously given enough area.

hell i was there for a weekend and saw street preachers and prophets and i didn't really get to see THAT much of the city
every time I'm in NYC i will usually see some
granted there are a greater ratio of religious wackos out in the sticks... but there are definitely a lot of people in major cities that are straight up coo coo for coco puffs

i lived in a small ass town growing up. one of my best friends had some porn stashed when we were 15. his family was very, VERY churchy. regular christian church too. his family found the stash, they took the porn to church and had a big burning ceremony and preached about the sins of lust.

Oh heck no, there are TONS. But the bulk of them, in the kinds of numbers that influence politicians, are spread out all across the country, in places where most folks don't want to live.
Take a pound of uranium. By itself, it's incredibly deadly. But spread it out enough and you'll never know it's there. Just like these folks.
