my boss has the original iPad that is running ios 5 I think it is
all the new apps that are available now do not support ios5 or older.
The ipad is still in great shape and performs well, it just cannot automatically update the ios. Is there a way to "root" or jailbreak an ipad to allow it to upgrade to a newer ios, or does he have to go and buy a new ipad?
 
you can just search for the IPSW for his ipad, download it, and then shift-click "update" in iTunes to update to the "custom" IPSW.
 
so can I use a IPSW for an Ipad2?
or do I need to try and find a version of iOS6 or iOS7 for the original iPad?
and have you ever tried this? am i going to brick the iPad?

the iPad original is mine now as he got a new iPad air
its an interesting little gizmo, but i can't install most apps, ie: ihreatradio and other things.
any advice on a bootleg fix would be greatly appreciated.
 
well first we need to know why you can't install them...... too old iOS ?
 
you can't do shit because iBusiness model.


it's a paper weight, much like the 3 and soon to be 4 are.
 
you could probably jailbreak it, but it will never run iOS 6.
