My brother recently came up with a good idea for a clothing brand. He would like to know how to go to the process of getting the name trademark. It turns out you cannot copyright a name, slogan or phrase so we're trying to find out exactly where to start and there's also a $335 filing fee.

Anyone ever done something like this before? Any help would be extremely appreciated. Checked the U.S. Patent/Trademark website and they only offer a phone # that my brother is going to call tomorrow, but just wanted to know if there is anything else we should know... Thanks in advance. -Mike :)
 
on a side note....

there are attorneys that specialize only in patent law, and as such, their educational backgrounds consist of a mechanical/engineering type of genre in which they would be more able to understand/help you with your patent, assuming it is something of that nature.
