Gallery- what do you like, what do you hate?
In the works for V4, i'm totally re-doing the gallery structure, file system, and all that. At some point, i will be blowing out the entire directory of pics and albums. I know this is a pain, but at the same time, it clears out about 800MB of shit. I will post a notice at least a couple days ahead of time to save any pics to your machine or forever hold your peace.

In the works already is:
Tech/Swap Articles and the Reference Section
These have all been moved to a top secret place already
Basically, I created a new forum category. This means, they are searchable now via the search form for the forums. Plus, its much cleaner, easier to edit, and any mod can fix something just like they could a post with the edit button.
Those will go live once v4 launches. until then, they are hiding, and the old stuff will be active.
Content- there hasn't been much new shit lately... and its not just my fault, well, yeah okk it is.. I've got tons of write ups I'm going to get to eventually... and If anyone else would like to contribute to it, it wil be more than welcome.
I'm toying with the idea of adding a new user group- Contributors or something to that extend, which will give certain select people posting permissions in the article forums. Otherwise, they will be read-only.
With this, the FAQ will be closing for technical reference. All the tech shit in there is going to be moved to the articles section. The FAQ will be for, well, FAQ. how to use the gallery, why can't i be a mod, and all that non-car related babble.
Forums
I half-way created a new template. the lite blue is getting tossed for a dark blue/grey/white theme. I need to come up with an image pak for this as well.
In addition, the rest of the site will carry the same design. I hate that green shit that the rest of the site is now.
Home Page Portal
The home page is getting totaly re-worked as well. I'm trying to set up RSS feeds from the articles section for RSS and XML readers. I am also trying to setup a Syndication algorithym, which will allow any of you folks to place a section on your own website from our content. it will be a simple code, liek a counter code, that you could simply copy/paste onto your homepage or wheverever you think it would be cool to get, for instance, the last 10 posts, the last couple articles, or what have you.
The homepage is also going to be more images and more layout. All the while, it will be clean, table-less modularized xhtml 1.1/css derrived, and will be readable on cell phones, pda's, handhelds, netscape 2, or your latest up to date browser. I want it to be totally accessible. I'd like to convert the forums to that as well... but they are half way through V2.0 which is going to be a total waste of my time if i start that now, and upgrade to more legacy code two months later.
Home page will be featuring the featured ride of the month- recent article quickies, and recent posts kinda like it does now, only 342 times better. http://overboost.com/ is a good example of the "style" the site will have has far as the article content goes. Qwuick icon, a link, date, and blah.. Only, it won't be gay, slow, nor charge you to read shit.

What else... well, what else do you want? what do you think would be an asset to this community? Got an idea? if its good, feasable, and im capable of programming it, it will be considered.

In the works already is:
- multiple delete instead of 1-at-a-time that it is now
- folder structure, based on your user ID. instead of all the images in one big unorganized mess, each user ID will dynamically have a folder written with their ID number.. me, for example, would be hs.com/gallery/1/. I wanted to have it be the user name instead of user ID, but too many folks have weird shit like dashes and other illegal characters in their user name, which would just make the directory a mess (url's converted weird chars to ascii codes.. ie a space is rendered as %20. so "honda number1" would have a gay folder like /honda%20number1/. From that point, each album you have will be another directory.. for example, hs.com/gallery/1/pissedoffgarage. Now, again, we run into the weird character thing... I need to run some more algorythms in my head on this.
- Multiple upload. again, 1 at a time sucks. I'll probably have a limit of 5 or 10 at a time. 56k users, should still do 1 at a time... as it takes a couple seconds a picture to upload to the server... and your connection speed depends on that... then the server does it's thing, and all that. At the same time, this makes for easyier abuse. now, it takes an hour to upload 100 pics to the gallery... lol i made it that way on purpose... but with easier uploads.. comes... limits.
- Limits. Sice I pay for the webspace, and we're only getting bigger, there needs to be some sort of control.
- First, to prevent spaming, i'm going to require 25 posts. Again, it will be totally automated. It simply won't let you upload or make an album if you don't have at least 25 posts. It's not hard to hit 25 posts... and in fact, i considered making it 50, till i realized that less than 1/4th of the membership has more posts that that. Kinda sad, but still...
- 2MB limit. there will be un-limited albums, pics, etc.. but you will be limited in your /user_id/ directory to 2MB. Therefore, asshats who want to upload lifesize picstures, can, but you're not going to get many on there. My 2MP camera in 640x480 takes pics at an average of 60-65KB each. That's roughly 35 full size camera pics. The gallery script also has a 75% jpg render engine, which reduces clearity by 1/4th, and thus, a slightly lower file size. Therefore, 40-50 pics should be able to be stored at any one time in the gallery for free. If you start runing out of space, deleting pics, lowers your directory size.
- 2MB not enough? Space costs money. With 1000 members, at 2MB a pop.. well, you do the math. I'm going to have to buy more space at some point, and its not cheap to do so. With space, comes more traffic, which means more bandwidth. I'm working on a paypal IPN, again, automated. I'm thinking $5-$10 1-time fee to upgrade your account to 7MB (a 5MB gain). You will fill out a form, it goes to paypal, you pay, it sends info back to our database, and your account is perminatly upgraded to the higher status. Mods and Admins will get this service free from the get-go. <legal>There will be no refunds, etc, if you are banned, hs crashes and we never post here again, or for any other reason </legal>
If you dont have paypal, your shit out of luck. I don't take credit cards, and I'm not dealing with the hassel of checks.
- The layout will be totally reworked as well. I'm considering doing something kinda like imagesation... with next/previous links and so forth, as well as a full album view. Not quite sure on all that as of yet... again, this is barely in pre-alpha right now.
