I recently attempted to adjust my valves only to realize i have no clue how to get my pistons to TDC? It's a 1996 honda civic lx and every manual i've read assumes you no where the crankshaft is. Where do you locate the crankshaft and do you have to remove the timing belt cover in order to do it properly? Also how important is it to adjust the valves while the car is cold? I mean do dealerships have you leave your car their over night to do the job with a cold engine?
Thanks

It's very important to do it cold.

The crankshaft pulley is... on the end of the crankshaft. You don't typically need to remove the timing belt cover to get to it. Turn your steering wheel all the way to the left and look behind your driver's side wheel in front of the axle.

Should be easy enough... you might have to remove your front left wheel if you can't go through it with your ratchet though.

This is for B-Series, but maybe it'll help. Sorry they're so big.
