Volvo Trucks - Emergency braking at its best! - YouTube
thats damn impressive
The cargo must get all fucked up. Wait for a lot of truckers to use this instead of braking in traffic.
pretty sure my accord can't do that at 60...mph or kph.
Wonder what the cost of rotors and pads are for that bad boy.
Wow, that stops FAST!
Id like to see the how the system operates, wonder if its air or hydro?
In the engineering world they're one and the same- air is just a really thin fluid.
Psh, i learned that from bill nye by the time I was 10.
i worked at a place where we made collision avoidance systems for tractor trailers about 10 years ago. perhaps you have heard of Eaton? yup the same company that makes superchargers also makes those type of collision avoidance systems. i made the circuit board for the dash display as well as the circuit board for the transmission. never the less, its a cool video!
Cool video, but I'm curious to see how much load he was carrying. Color me a cynic, but there's no way he was rolling with 20t and stopped like that.
in the link it says fully loaded 40 tons
I wonder if you have to use specially designed OTR tires to get that performance.
I don't think my motorcycle can stop that fast, lol.
I feel bad for the cars behind him that can't stop that fast.
Nor mine, haha.
No kidding, especially since most people follow extra close to trucks because they figure they can out stop them or they just don't care.
I've NEVER seen anything that big stop that fast. I can't imagine you get too many times to stop like that before something needs a rebuild or replace.
Eaton is one of the largest suppliers for clutches, transmissions for the entire heavy duty trucking industry.
I might have to look into this video some more. I know a few companies that are direct competitors of this euro/overseas version of the volvo.
That's pretty amazing. But I imagine this will only be purchased by independent truckers. Trucking companies probably won't drop the extra coin for these rigs.
You'd be very surprised what they spend on. Allison's and Eaton Quickshift 13's were rate a few years ago. Now they're on a lot of trucks and they're a $10k+ option. With the driver shortage, younger drivers are becoming more and more common. At that it also in in the company's best interest to have a low age, high tech fleet, comfortable fleet to avoid accidents and retain the best drivers.
One accident can get a driver fired.
