anyone know when vtec kicks in on a d16z6? any recommendations on a mini setup?

5200 is correct. But it varies slightly depending on throttle position, manifold vacuum, vehicle speed, and engine temp.

You could use an MSD RPM switch, but the problem with that is that it won't advance the ignition or add fuel like a VTEC ECU does.

Best bet is to get a ZDyne (if they're still around) or Hondata reprogrammed ECU. Or, just get a Z6 ECU...

at the moment its just a stock d16a6 in a 89 civic. im considering doing this on the car and want to know as much on the setup as posible. thanks guys

LoL, a fun thing to do is do what my friend did ( by the way he just ran 11.94 with a gsr turbo on slicks! it was mint ill get video asap), anyway, hook up vtec to a lightswitch just for the 1st day, drive around, when u hit 5200 flick it and fly upto 7500 turn it off, shift then flick it on, its halarious, its like having a nitrous shot a the flick of a button.
