im looking at my sand rail that is mostly comprised of vw pan, chassis, and wheels, and thinking to my self, i wonder if i can put a honda power plant in this thing, now i bring the question, does anyone have any foresight on any possible snags or problems that i might encounter? at this point im excited, and hope to stay optimistic, i currently have a 98 ls motor and an old tranny lying around i think i have an ecu and im going to get a harness for the car tomarow, any suspension advice would greatly be appretiated because im clue less in this department

They make an adapter plate to mate the B-series to the VW trans, you have to change something in the VW gear box because the Honda motor spins the other way.

i heard some stuff about the adapter plates, mostly bad news, what i heard was you can adapt it, but also have to flip the ring gear 180 degrees, in order for it to rotate correctly, but fliping the ring gear only weakens the tranny limits, to an already weak tranny, i have so far all wiring harness from the swap motor and tranny, all smog equipment pretty much everything down to airbags and cc, im thinking of an all honda swap, but dont know how much the stock suspension will allow for travel, and if im over looking any minor deatails that can be crucial in the end game

My boss has a 300hp STi motor in his sand car with an adapter plate to a stock 6-rib bus trans. I would keep the VW trans, use a 3-rib bus trans, or if you have the money the big bad 6-rib. Its going to be hard to get the Honda tranny to mount the VW frame horns.

yeah im not sure what those run but i hear that they can handle some torque, i wasnt emplying that they are not strong tranny but the one in my rail is rated 100 hp 150 max, i was just thinking for a little bit better realiability since illl be running 150 hp, and im not sure but do you think that they would be able to handle high rpms? any suggestions on mounting the honda tranny? i have a welder and can get some tubing for a "sub frame" if you would call it that,

Its going to involve too much work to get the honda tranny to work, its just not worth the hassle, look around for a 3-rib, youll thank yourself later for running the vw trans axle.

Im not sure what exactly what is involved but from what Ive heard its pretty simple to do. A google search should come up with some good info.

if i was to couple the motor to the vw tranny i think my rail would be really heavy out back causing a major wheeelie problem, dont get me wrong i love a good wheeelie but im not sure how the racing aspect would be affected

Thats what cutting brakes are for, even with the front wheels in the air you can still steer.
