well feels like everyone is going boost, so i decided that I'm going that route too:D. The only problem is that i dunno much about it, soo i hope you guys can help me out..
I got a stock B16a1 in a 91 civic dx and i wanted to know if a b16 is boost friendly or not.I also want to know wat i have to do to make it reliable because its my DD. i dont really have a HP goal yet or what kinda turbo i want yet either but I'm always driving on the freeway.(if that helps)

    so yea, any helps counts!

It's all in the tune. The compression on a B16 is high to begin with, so no matter how much boost you decide to run with whatever turbo you choose, you are going to need to make sure it's tuned. Not some junk Ebay chip, but a reputable tuner.

Do some research. It's not as easy as slapping the turbo on and calling it a day. You need to look at fuel, among other things. Lots of people have boosted B16's. Google it. The best education is self education.

    alright thanks.
    will do..

    but i gotta another question..

do I need to actually built it before I turbo it??
or will the tune just set it to where its safe to run?

That depends on how much power you want to make. Everything depends on that, so you really need to figure it out...

It also depends on your budget. Some people may disagree with me on this, but I think the more money and time you put into it NOW, the less you will have to put into it later. If it was me, I would rebuild it--everything. Start fresh and not have anything to worry about. Otherwise, you could go through the troubles of boosting it and tear it down all the time to fix something that could have been prevented.

    yea..
    that sounds better..

after reading a couple of people that boosted their cars without building it up first said that they started losing compression after awhile so yea..

    save me the trouble..^_^

i have seen dynos of 300hp b16's with stock internals.

pay more for a tune today, pay less for a rebuild tomorrow.

ANYTHING other than leaving the car 100% stock is going to effect the reliability. shoot for 225hp. thats a lot of power for that little car.

something you will learn over time...someone is ALWAYS faster.

250hp, gut the car, get an lsd and you'll beat 99% of street legal cars. not necessarily every car racing, but most cars on the streets run 13.5 or slower. you'll be fine.

oh, and when you get moving, you need to control it and stop.

invest in a good set of wheels/tires, suspension and some brembo blanks and hawk hp pads.

    depends on your budget.

bfg makes some good tires. but there are better tire experts on here than me.

    Boost it

dude are you serious?! haha not to be harsh in anyway but, you got an awesome power plant to boost and make good RELIABLE power with

a bone stock b16 can handle 300whp easily with a good TUNE.

like everyones been saying, the tune is the most important part. id suggest hondata or some other form of stand-alone

you're going to also need a decent turbo. look up full-race. they have some awesome kits for B-series.

a boosted b-series would put up a good fight with those k bombs. just dont do it on the street ;). g/l man

dude are you serious a turbo stock b16 with 300hp dude hes compression going to be high as hell, all that asking for is some melted pistons and bent rods, or he breaks a valve. And if he breaks a valve then hes got little ass mettle pieces all in he's cylinder and one in stroke and and hes got to get the cylinders machined just to fix the heavy scoring not including the pistons because there now scarred which means he will have to get he engine balanced.... Dude build the motor than you can boost it and get some mad power.

You can boost a stock b series motor reliably. Its all in the tune. Just leak down check the motor and check everything over before boosting to make sure it is healthy. I helped my brother tune his B18c with 10.6:1 compression with a sc61 on 10 pounds; It lasted 2 years with no loss in compression before blowing from a vacuum line falling off the wastegate. It made 310 hp to the wheels tuned on a aem. Also fullrace makes a good kit, but you can save yourself a lot of money by researching and making your own kit.
