I've heard of people advancing their timing above stock reccomended specs, but why do they do this? what benefits are there? Right now the only mods i have are Intake, headers, exaust on my D16y8. I just want to know if i am missing out on anything and hoping to gain some knowlege on what advancing the timing actually does to the engine. THANKS

Advancing your timing gives you a bit more power, BUT the downside is you have a higher chance of detonation. You can try advancing it maybe 1 degree and see if it knocks, if it does knock then retard it back to stock spec.
