Survey time. We keep debating this. I'm just curious how this would pan out here. Obviously forums (especially car forums) aren't the best place to survey, but it would be interesting to gauge the system.

We keep debating the value of a degree. I value a degree AND being ambitious enough to know what to do with it. Obviously there isn't a black or white answer, but we need to settle on a gray area.

I'll throw out some other conversation starters.

Do you feel that YOU could make more money today if you had a degree/vocational cert?

    Would you make LESS money?

Do you have a degree that has is totally unrelated to what you do? (example, do you have an Art degree and you work construction)

I am a high school graduate. I work as a Help Support Tech and make about the amount I would expect not having a college education in a field where one would advance me to a better position.

I do work with people who do have their BA's and they make about the same as me, so I'm sure they are ultra pissed.

i believe in living within your means. everybody has different desires, goals, wants, and needs. some people only desire $50,000 per year. others want $500,000 per year.

with that being said, i don't want to turn this into a pissing match about personalities and greed. however, for what i would like to make at 30, 40, and 50....i MUST have higher education. it's just how it is. unless of course i start my own business, but to make it to the point i want to be at, it's not going to happen.

I will probably start my gmat studies soon and start applying for an MBA online program coming up in the future when I find less cyclical employment than my company offers.

Just curious why you limited it to MBA instead of an overall masters. I am a B of S with roughly 12 masters credits in a variety of areas including education, construction and engineering. Where does that fit in?

I could make more money just by finding a different job in my field, but the job security in working for family is lost. I have no degree, but some college credits.

A lot of people overlook job experience, I work for Oreilly Auto Parts, I started out as a delivery driver making 7 an hour, worked my way up into corporate and make more than that now. Have been with the company for 6 years and might be moving into a sales position soon, which is another tier up in pay.

To each their own its what goals you set in life, not what others set for you.

A college edumacation was originally designed to let the graduate enter any profession and do well, for the mere fact that they were educated. Now that college educations are commonplace, you need work experience or something else to set you apart.
