I am looking to sell this bike I received in a trade last year for my bagged truck.
Its a 2002 RC51, with 8406 miles.
Couple cracks in the fairings, dent in the tank, with scuffs on the tank and the rear side by the 1000R.
Has chromed OE wheels, power commander, jardine dual exhaust.
Needs new rear tire.

What should I ask/accept?
I was thinking $4k/$3500.
The most I was going to see out of my truck was looking to be about $3500 but the sale fell through a couple times and I didn't want to sit on it through another winter.

Keep it and enjoy it? Or turn it into a street fighter =)

I would have thought about picking this up for a street fighter if I knew you were selling it.

As far as price goes I have no clue. I would watch ebay and craigs list as with the RC51 forums to get an idea of what they're listing for, and watch to see if they're selling. Many times bikes will sit and sit and sit with too high of a price and will never move. You want to find that sweet spot where its low enough to sell but not too low where you're not happy.

www.kbb.com will give you a bluebook value for the bike for a baseline to go off of.

I'd say 3500 is pretty fair. Might be able to get 4000 out of it. Problem with sport bikes is kids get them, then beat them like a deaf dog, then sell them for cheap. If I want to spend 5 or 6 thousand on a bike, I'm going to wait till a beat up 07 or 08 CBR comes along and lie to myself about how beaten it is.

Good selling points:

Separate rear seat (this is a huge selling point for me on a bike)
1000cc
Doesn't sound like it's been down too hard
Lowerish miles

Bad:

It's "Old" as far as street bikes go
Does have some damage
Power commander can be a pro or a con, I suppose, I'd prefer to add it at my desire rather than have the last owner have done it
Tires are fucking expensive.

Dunno, probably didn't help much, but I'd say 4000 should be reasonable.

eh, any advise is better than nothing right? lol
i'm gonna try to watch the market a little bit, but you don't see too many of these RC51's by me

guy near me died last weekend when... get this... "the motorcycle he was operating crossed the yellow line and struck the side of a truck"
so the motorcycle crossed the yellow line and hit someone, not the operator of said motorcycle
i heard this all day on the radio sunday and it just sounded so odd the way they said it
i suppose it is a nicer way for people to hear about than just saying he ran into the side of a truck, place blame on the machine so no one feelings get hurt?

and exactly how hard to people beat deaf dogs?
never heard that before
maybe an ohio thing
i'll ask my brother in law tonight

i see bikes like this go from 4k to 7k. post the price high and let the buyers know that the price is negotiable

I see a street fighter as more of a stripped down, bare bones, brutal looking bike. Never really put a stunt bike in the same category. More of a modern day cafe racer. Like this:

7K would be for a mint RC51 with lower miles, think *showroom* bike. 4K would be for a good condition with minor flaws with ok miles.

Any issues that would be easy to spot from dents to broken fairings and you're talking 2-3K

Bottom line, it will only sell for what his local market sells RC51s for, there's no point in guessing when he can do some searching and find out what they're going for.

That thing looks slick. Just sucks the guy riding it is a squid. Doesn't even have fucking boots on.

I don't mind it. Not as cool as the first bike though. It's still pretty sweet.
