ok, as you all well know, i blew my motor.

at least i think i did. i got it back to my house tonite, and tomorrow am going to work on taking off the greddy kit and putting it on ebay. (1100.00 at least)

my dad is giving me 500.00 to get the d16 swaped out and a used d16 swapped back in.

if i were to take that 1500.00...

is that enough money for a obd2 COMPLETE ls swap into my ek?

what do you guys think i should do?

the other option was to just drop in a used d16 and keep my ek stock, and buy a 1991 crx and use that as my project car....

thoughts?

im HOPING i can get the greddy kit entirely off in a few hours....

then ill pop the valve cover, hopefully i got the right tools to take off the head and take a peek inside.

im hoping its nothing SERIOUSLY wrong....from a financial standpoint.

when i turn the key, the engine turns over, and i head a LOUD banging inside the engine. then the rpms drop and it dies...

anyone wanna guess whats wrong?

i also noticed a tad bit of dried white substance right where the valve cover connects to the head

get the LS motor

how much should a average ls motor OBD2 run?

arent they the same power as a d16?

cmon, trailerpark pimp, brian, and Calesta are all online right now.

i know at least one of you guys has an idea of whats going on.........

lets hear what u guys think is wrong !!!!

ill know by the end of the weekend, and ill create a new thread and put pictures.

I'm online too.

I dunno what happened though, did you destroy a con rod?

well Brian and Mike (Calesta) know engine shit...i know exterior stuff. so i am absolutely clueless. sorry that i am no help bro :(

thnkx anyways tpp.

im hoping i can have the kit off by tomorrow and being to take off the head.

whatever the problem is, im sure you guys will enjoy looking at the pics ill post with morbid curiosity

A loud banging noise? I dunno it's either a con rod hitting loose/broken parts or a piston hitting a valve, but it won't hit it every time would it? I dunno.

The worst I've had happen was my timing belt broke on my Escort and apparently it fucked up 2 valves.

i also think im going to go ls/t.

im hoping i can learn how to take out a motor, and install a new one, that ill be able to do it by myself the next time i blow a motor....

if i can learn by doing it once, ill be more than willing to shell out 200 bucks for a cherry picker and the right tools and from then on, it wont be a issue if i blow a motor.

just jack the car up, shell out 1000.00 or so and swap in a new one in a few hours by myself.

that is my main fear. engine install. never done it before. if i can learn once, then itll just be like brushing my teeth, wiping my ass and taking a shower.....all secondary nature :D

once i learn how to drop out and in a motor, i wont be creating stupid threads like this in the future. well i will, but just to show off pics of the shit im doing :D

shit coming out the valve cover, i've never heard of.

loud banging could be anything.... a whole in the block, a bend rod, a broke or melted piston, a ring that fell off (hey, it could happen)

a spun rod bearing has its own distinctive sound...

if if just dies, it sounds like an oil problem... i bet you blew the oil pump drive gear, which is common, which led to lack of proper oiling... which led to something breaking.... exaclty what, i don't know...

Does the car actually RUN at all, or does it just make bang bang noises as you are turning over the starter?

I've heard of D series engines pulling the wristpin out of the piston before... If the rod is still flailing around int here... BANG BANG BANG! And it would be attempting to run on 3 cylinders...

LS/T all the way, man. OBD2 LS swap's are easily found for under 2k. In fact, look around at salvage yards, pick up an entire totalled LS vehicle that's about the same year as your car (96-98 for OBD2a, or 99-00 for OBD2b) and make an incredibly clean swap using all the original car's parts. Super easy. It's about as easy as a snap-tite model, just more bolts. ;)

umm the white stuff is probaly ur semen, as for the rest, its probably a piston hitting a valve , or maybe, ( happened to a friend of mine and u have the same symptoms as he did) snapped the crank into 2 peices.

as for LS swaps, yes u shoulda easily find 1 for under 1500, just look long and hard, and MAKE Sure u know the vehicle history, so u know the engine wasnt hurt in the crash. also its a good idea to take it from a manual 4 door, will probably be less beat on than a 2 door.

Tony- I'm going to hazard a guess based on not seeing it that you might have broken a rod...

Can you feel it when you're in the car trying to start the engine? What kind of smoke is coming out of the exhaust? Is the sound even and follow with the engine's rotation, or is it less frequent and more random?

If your rod went, it's possible that your piston is just sitting low in the bore and not playing with the other three... or that it smacked the valves and some are staying open- both could be reasons why your engine won't start.

Just guessing.........
