Where did the word Johnson come from?

My coworker used that word and then asked where did that come from anyways? and I thought it was a good question who the hell came up with a dick being a johnson?
only thing I can think of is Big Johnson T-Shirts but Im sure that came out after the word johnson was used

i --- hear --- that it had something to do with the - johnson - rod , lever or whatever on steam locomotives back in the steam locomotive days .
