Where do you get the money? Thats insane....

I've decided to stay in school. My dad came home today and started talking about having to go to Texas after hail because there's just not enough in Minnesota right now, he said I cant go.

he probably gets the money from being a Nurse Practitioner... you should look into it I know three people who started working this year in MN as nurses for about 50k a year right out of college.

where do you live in MN?

If for no other reason just go to college to have fun and meet people, you will probably never have an opportunity like that ever in your life if you let it pass by. you still have to do work so you don't get kicked out and have a decent degree when you grad but college is the bomb!

where do you live in MN?

Its a little community about 50 miles north of cities and 40 south of St. Cloud. Its called Dassel-Cokato. The problem with this town is the number of kids vs the number of jobs. Lots of the people who make up our community are followers of a Finish religion. Most familys have like 8 kids, and dont believe in watching T.V. These kids take all the jobs. Another bad part about our town is that word spreads like wildfire. July of '02 I was arrested by the cops and sent through the system for 5 months... Im not a bad kid at all, but I messed up. People can't seem to see through that and my name isn't good anymore, it makes it really hard to get hired. Correctional Facility Kid or the Finish kid thats so set in his religion he doesnt watch T.V.... who do you think is gonna get the job? Anyways... I'll find.. as I was typing this the phone rang and I may have found a job that starts out at like 8.75 wahoo. I was going to work for this company before, but I decided to move to my moms... well now I moved back and they're hiring again so maybe since I've gone through all the training Ill get hired! Shit yes!

Advice: Finish high school and go to college. Even if you don't know what you want to do yet, the value of a college education is extremely high... you grow up there, learn more about yourself, and figure out what you really want to do. If you think you can do well without a degree- you can, but most people I know who didn't go to college regret it later on in life. They either find themselves unhappy with what they're doing, or they go back and get a college degree. I'm not talking about some tech school- even people I know in their 40s, 50s, even older who got technical or associate's degrees are going back to school to get a 4 year bachelor's degree. It really means that much, and the pay is much better. Of course, education is what you make of it- you can go to college and still have a low paying crap job if you don't try to do your best, and you can skip any higher education and still be extremely successful.

I would really stress taking the time to go to school though. It really does open up a lot of doors for you later in life.

I agree with Calesta's advice. I hear from a lot of older contractors that did not finish HS, or barely passed that they wish they went to college. As you get older in a trade, unless you are the owner with a lot of people working for you or a postion of mgmt, your body starts to wear out and you can't do what you could when you were young. Say if you were a painter for 30 years and now you hurt your back and can't work. SInce you don't know any other fields what are you going to do? You have nothing to fall back on.
