I've got a chance to get some new wheels, off of a Mini. They're 15x5.5 with +45 offset. They'd be going on 89 HB, stock height. Is that going to look like ass? I see Civic wheels that are 6.5 with +42 offset, but I wasn't sure about the skinny wheel....

the offset isn't bad... remember, its a function of the width.

but why the hell do you want to run a 5.5" wide wheel?

175/60-15 on a civic is such a waste of time...

i ran 195's on a 5" wheel. and run 205's on a 6" wheel...

you can even run 205's on a 5.5" wheel but no larger, sure youll have a slightly smaller contact area, but it will still work. i say slap some 195's on there and call it a day though, 205 is right at the limits of getting too wide.

I dunno... I'd stay away from 205s on a 5.5" wheel. Especially on an 89 Civic- the ideal tire size on a 15" wheel is a 195/50 (if you're on a D series transmission), and 195/50 will fit just fine with a 15x5.5 wheel.
