I have windows xp on my laptop and i am debating on installing xp pro. Question 1 is if i install xp pro would i have to reformat and lose all my programs and data? And Question 2 is it worth it? My Buddies computer has xp pro and he has a status toolbar at the top of his screen that shows all the info in the task manager visible at all times. Is there anyway regular xp can utilize that feature? Thanks or the help in advance :D

why do you want pro? if you're asking this question on this message baord then you DO NOT need pro.

Pro just gives you more optioins when it comes to network stuff and other goodies that I beat you do not use

Well i would like to use xp pro's encrypting file system, It is disabled on xp home. But if it is not worth it then i will not bother with it. My father uses it on his computer and i was just wondering if i should install it on miine and maybe the benifits of it? And i didnt just ask it on this message board. It is on one or two more. I just like to get different opinions from different people. And your answer helped out some so why not? General chat means what again ? :p

benefits? mom can't get your porn. other than that, its slower, and less reliable by far.

unless you need to login to a domain-based network, you don't need xp pro.

to answer your question, no you do not have to lose all your data.

i have pro and home both on my system, when you install pro just give it a dif directory. then you can choose what os you want to run whenever you boot up.
