netscape went out of business, and its source code bought by aol.

mozilla .8 was based off netscape 6.

from 1.0 on, its been a basically entire re-write of the Gecko rendering engine.

Also note that every year is the year of "Linux on the desktop," yet Linux is still at 1% of usage on Zeitgeist.

I don't like IE either, but come on. There is no "recent mass migration."

lol, so true. Say every member of HS goes to Mozilla for some ungodly reason. Even so, that would be like .05345253% of Internet users. IE will always be used for internet, and Windows will always be used for OS. Life is good. :)

Well i made the switch a few days ago.....i'm pretty impressed...i like it.....

Give it some time, Brian "brainwashed" me into getting it, I thought it was good for a while, until I realized more and more problems with it. :)

I use Firefox/IE at about an 85% to 15% ratio... the 85% being Firefox.

hardly... and it just shows your ignorance.

not true.. shows how much i dont like it.. I dont know about your shop B but i know here in the Fed(s) we have to develop for IE. (almost positive 99% *about the percentage of people using ie over FF lol* that you do too)

i have to develop for IE at work but at home i have to develop for all browsers. I earned the right to say i hate FF and pretty much all those other browsers.. people bitch so much about IE but their the for runners in most everything. and with ie 7 (if and when) im sure it will regain the lead.

I dont need to run FF to keep myself secure i know enough about computers to do that.

Werd

Don't take this the wrong way, but... if you knew how to code, you would learn to hate IE too.

you're one of the webmasters who still think image rollovers for text are cool, tables are for layout, and stuff like that.

great- that was all fine and well... in 99.

thinkgs change

That's an assinine statement for someone who is defending a browser that looks like it belongs on a Packard Bell. Mozilla looks seriously 1997-1998'ish.

its meant to come unthemed-

and theres about 34234 themes availble at the click of a button... lets see MS handel an XPI

hmm.. dont take that the wrong way.. what other way could i take that. lets just get something clear here.. when you develop for IE for 8 years on a corporate level you learn the platform you have to cater to. I know you've been doing private sector/unix/linux based sites longer than you've been doing asp. I'm not real sure what you mean by image rollovers for text. i haven't used image rollovers for a long long time (probably back in 99)

as for tables.. true true.. i like using tables more control i think and since i program mostly for a platform that can handle tables (cough) it works for me. No offense dude but ya gotta get off CSS and non IE's balls..

on a lighter note if i send you an invite and you say your coming if you dont come seriously gonna catch a rick james.. 75 bucks a head lol

firefox can handel tables...

but the fact remains, that

"tables were made for tabular data"

its like using excel, when you should be using word :)

lol

may i point you here:

http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/struct/tables.html#h-11.1

where it says, and i quote:

Tables should not be used purely as a means to layout document content as this may present problems when rendering to non-visual media. Additionally, when used with graphics, these tables may force users to scroll horizontally to view a table designed on a system with a larger display. To minimize these problems, authors should use style sheets to control layout rather than tables.

and may i also quote:

This document specifies HTML 4.01, which is part of the HTML 4 line of specifications. The first version of HTML 4 was HTML 4.0 [HTML40], published on 18 December 1997 and revised 24 April 1998.

so, if you've been using tables for design after 4/1998, you are old news, out dated, and obsolete.

Thank you, drive through :)

and Eric, you know i still love ya man :p I just gotta give you a hard time.

and may i also suggest some reading, which hits on both points:

Y'know, I think I heard something awhile back about how tables were shit. The funny thing is, the head of our web design department's favorite thing ev4r was tables. God she was a dolt.

i know you are it's all good. I still like using tables though i really think if used effectivly and allowed to span and fixed and positioned correctly it takes away the problems you quoted me but. everyone's style is different. And if they keep coming your doing something decent

what it comes down to is preference and meeting customer specifications. and i love you too b
