That is the familiar phrase we hear when i go with my sister to the emegency room.
My sister has been living since 94 without a pancreas.
everytime she has to go to the emergency room the doctors litterally call her a liar, and usually refuse to treat her because of it.
they always say: "you cannot love without a pancreas."

she had to go tonight, i went with her, and the same thing happened. I went and told the doctor that he could call her regular practitioner, her surgeon or even vanderbuilt hospital. he said: " Im not calling anybody."

she lost her temper and cussed at him a little. shes in pain and he is calling her a liar. what would he expect. after that he said that hes not treating her and that he is gonna have her escorted off the premisis.

she has medical records stating that she has no pancreas, but the doctor usually has his head so far up his ass that he refuses to check and see for himself.

I was so fucking pissed. this happens alot. but this doctor was a stright dick about it.

had to vent.

I've known a couple of people that do not have or have only a portion of theirs.

Bastards. Just scribble on a piece of paper, its a "doctors" handwriting you aren't supposed to be able to read it, and hand it to the next one and tell them what it says.

Why do doctors not know this? I know this.

for real.

let me guess, he thinks you'll die without tonsils, a gulbladder, 1 kidney, or an apendix too, right? asshat type Dr.

I get fought on lots of things from my doctors. "Not possible" is how people address me in the hospital.

if this is a common occurence there are 2 things you can do.

1)keep a copy of medical records and take them to the hospital with you. this is the easy way to handle it. makes the most sense.

2)handle it like a grown up. ask to see the chief of staff. be tactful and polite. you will get a lot farther. if you channel up the right way, you will get the results you want. if they wont service you, get all the information and call a lawyer. it's that simple.

take a deep breath and handle the situation. getting pissed does nothing to make her feel better or actually get help.

i didnt do anything last night.

i got the hospital administrators name and number and im gooing to call them today.
I will be seeking out legal consultation.

Shes been to every hospital in our area, they all should have some of her records on file.
it just pissed me off that the guy flat out refused to even call or ask anybody about it.
just kept telling us that you cannot live without a pancreas.

get the chief of staffs name and phone number. he is the guy who runs the medical part of the hospital. he makes the decisions, and if someone acts irresponsible or negligent, he handles the situation.

regardless if she has been to every hospital, or even if they know her by first name, you need to take control. get a copy of medical records or have some form of information that she can keep in her purse. it's like one of those emergency medical bracelets that people have. she needs it on her 24/7 so this doesn't happen again.

my brother is also pancreas free, and we have the same argument every time he misses a shot. I mean seriously....what good would it do to lie about such a thing? You think they are gonna take you for all the insulin youre worth?

I feel ya bro.

man...thats just ridiculous that doctors are like that...i just love it when people say things are "not possible"...and the fact that it has occured is staring them straight in the face...they are in denial...i would definitely take legal action

she has already contacted an attorney. she has a meeting set up for tuesday.

reikoshea, your brother has no pancreas whatsoever? damn, even my sisters main doctors dont know that there is another person without one. ive heard about people having most of theirs removed, but havnt heard of somebody else having all of it removed.

apparently "hacksaw" Jim Duggan was just diagnosed with pancreatitis, my sister said she saw his teary eyed interview on tv. When they asked him why they didnt remove his whole pancreas he replied "you cant live without a pancreas."
she said that she wanted to call him and tell him otherwise but she couldnt. no number. lol.

but you would think, that a doctor, a person that spent over 8 years learning, would be very curious about a medical rarety. i know i would want to learn and understand how its possible.

LIVING WITHOUT A PANCREAS

There are some patients who have had either their pancreas removed or who still have pancreatic tissue but which is not functioning at all. Both types of patient are perfectly able to lead a normal life provided they take regular enzyme supplements and insulin injections.

Can we live without a pancreas?
Many years ago, a patient without a pancreas could not survive because severe diabetes and an inability to digest food would immediately result. Today some patients can function without a pancreas, living fairly normal lives. However, they must take daily injections of insulin and pills that contain digestive enzymes for the rest of their lives. Sometimes pancreatic transplantation is an option for patients whose pancreas does not function normally.

can you live without a pancrease

google does wonders...lol

damn, good find. if only a fucking doctor would try that.
But i guess their 8+ years of education, with their out of date books, will always prevail over real life events that are happening at the moment.

never trust anybody who after 8 years of college plus on the job training still has to "practice" anything

"You won't be walking by age 13"
"You will be in a wheelchair at age 18"
"You won't be walking at age 30"

And now they are telling me I won't be walking at age 40. I tend to not believe them.

"IF you walk again you will need a cane for the rest of your life"
the following summer i was building a leg brace out of carbon fiber so that it would fit into a rollerblade
2 summers later i didnt need the brace any more
i dont even limp :)

of course i was also still racing people in my 5spd del sol when i was in a full leg "toes to testicles" cast on my right leg
theres something to be said for being stubborn :)

my sister was sick since the age of 2.
they said that my mother was making her sick.
at 12 an asian doctor diagnosed her with pancreatitis, other dr's said he was an idiot, that children cant have that disease.
at 13 (i think) she had her pancreas removed. completly.
they told her that she wont live to be 15.
shes 26 now.
they told her that she would never be able to have kids, bc it would kill her.
she has 3 now.

doctors have no credit in my book.

One or two wackjob doctors shouldn't turn you off from them in general. I'm sorry you had to deal with one of the many many idiots in the medical profession, but I assure you there are competent ones as well.
