Are you going to spend $900 in gas driving out there? I hope not, either you're spoiled and $900 dollars isn't a big deal, or you are just lazy. The $900 you save, will give you you're short shifter, intake, and a header.

700. not 900, 700 dollars.

I'm not spoiled as I will be paying for this car my damn self, and I work 2 jobs. so it's not a problem.

But I'm lazy and well, working two jobs I don't have crazy amounts of time to just drive an hour to save 700 dollars.

I agree with B too, but I did shop around. I spent 6 hours with my dad driving around the city and this and the 2000 Celica GT are about the only two cars I liked.

You drive around for 6 hours, but can't drive 75 miles. About 2 hours? And save $700, maybe more after talking him down a bit?

If I can even get approved for it. I'm still waiting to hear back from the place right in town. Can't run credit checks on the weekends. Driving for 6 hours to look at I don't even know HOW many lots we saw, versus driving 2 hours to look at one car which may or may not have been sold already. Too iffy for me.

I say you call just to see, it couldn't hurt, and I am sure that they can give you some information over the phone. Anyway, it is your car and choice, but the SI blue is just too bad ass of a color to pass up.

Well, go ahead and get it then but I have a feeling you'll be kicking yourself in the ass later.

why is it that people ask for advise and when you give it they argue about it?

:withstupid: too.

oh wait he's talking to me.

Yeah it's not a bad idea. I'll have time tomorrow...we'll see if my app goes through and i'm approved for the car too.

Or they ask for our advice AFTER the deal is done.

Btw, from selling cars, my dealership used the KBB to come up with the high starting sticker price, and there was always more room to talk price on one of our used cars than on a new car. The lower priced NADA guide was used for calculating the trade-in values of incoming cars...

I argued about it because people were giving some weird ass advice.

First off, all I asked is what were some cheap mods I could do to it? The answers were: Keep looking around, or you're going to get raped... or (my personal favorite) drive 150 miles round trip to look at the same damn car in blue, when there's a 1 year newer one sitting not even 10 miles from my house just to save $700.

I guess you aren't as poor as me...$700 is alot of money to me. I'd drive 300 miles if I found an ELECTRON BLUE (the sweetest color ev4r) Si for cheaper than the one that is 75 miles and the one that is right by your house. Maybe I'm just that broke, but $700 bucks is alot. Get the blue one!!!
Fuck a Celica. I drove one of my woman-friends Gt once. She was drunk and passed out in the passenger seat so she didn't see me beating the piss out of her car. Not really impressed by the Celica at all. It was a 2000 , black with the big wing on the trunk.
Celica= :thumbsdown:
Electron Blue!!! Si=

Just my opinion...

Note: She was drunk and passed out. I was still sober. She was still ugly. I don't even want to hear a "Stick it in her pooper!". MAYBE if I was drinking. Buy I wasn't...

haha well...I'm not one for pooper sticking. so I won't say that.

Apparently you are more poor than I am, I make lots of cash money and i have like 5 bills to pay. A car payment won't hurt me at all. :)

700 may not sound like alot but when it worked into the financing you wind up payinh more like 1200

Myabe. Let's do some math shall we?

(Calesta, stop drooling. :p )

At 7% interest (which is rather high, but I'm doing that to be on the safe side) on a $14,500 car (if you remember, i'm putting $1000 down), I will end up paying Honda $16,571 for whatever the term is, so lets just say that's a 5 year term, you would divide that by 60 months, and it comes out to $276.18 a month. Expensive? Yes. Necessary? Yes. I need a new car. I can't drive this Escort anymore. The shifter is driving me insane.

Speaking of math...

Well here's my 2 cents. The jump from your escort to this Si is a big one. $14,500 for a used civic when there are some nice used GSR tegs of the '98 vintage around for around $10K. If I were you, I would look in that direction... and try not to stretch out your auto loan to 5 years. It's too easy to come out upside financially in a situation like that if you aren't careful about it. In other words, as the loan progresses, your car is worth less than the amount you owe on it...

Yep. I know that.... my buddy got into that situation. he owed 12,5k on his Grand Am GT and it was only worth 8500. but with the awesome trade in on Honda Civics I bet I can get what it's worth/what I owe in 3 years.

Believe me I really did look for Teg GSRs. I found two in fort wayne and they were sold within 4 days....for more than 10k.

I've yet to see a nice 98+ Civic (even the EX models) for under 10k. My coworker has a 99 EX and his loan was for 10k. I want something with performance. So I'm willing to sacrifice.

I dunno. I just really loved the sound of my brothers Civic when VTEC kicked in, and now I'll have something I enjoyed (his SI was partially what got me into sport compacts) earlier, and I'll have something that will make him jealous.

Well don't count on that. The used car market is very sluggish. There is a lot of used stock out there and the new cars have low interest promotions. So are you only looking at dealership inventory? Because that's what it seems like...

A good friend of mine up in CT just traded in a sweet silver SiR coupe, and the dealer only gave him $7500 towards his new car...

My brother traded his 00 SI in in early 2002, with 55,000 miles on it... and got $16k back for it. I won't drive this car 20k miles in 10 years, so I'm sure it'll still be worth something.

I'm looking for a newer car still under warrenty. I bought my escort at a used non-dealer lot...no warrenty, and so much shit went wrong with this car in the first 5 months. clutch, timing belt, head, valves, tires, brakes.

Well your brother traded in his Si at the perfect time. The demand for 00 Si's isn't at the same frenzy.

As to your troubles with the escort and its lack of warranty... well of course it was a constant hassle, you bought a used escort. lol. Well good luck. I bought my car and added on an extended warranty to it, but never needed to use it... and my car just reached 260K miles. If you just treat a Honda or Acura with commonsense in its maintenance and how you drive it, it will be just fine. Before you buy a any used car, even through a dealership, have a good mechanic check it out thoroughly. If you are looking at two similar cars, don't just go with the car with the lower mileage. There is a lot more to a used car than its odometer reading.
