I just pick up a YS1 tranny the asshole i got it from told me it was out of a 93 gsr b17 that he was parting out so i met this asshole halfway because he was just over 2 1/2 hours away from me so i buy the tranny for 350.00 the next day i open the tranny to check it out its all good until i did a teeth count of the gears this is NOT a gsr tranny i go to call the guy and the number is now disconnected well i been fucked so instead looking for another tranny i was thinking of changing the final drive in this one from 4.266 to 4.92 here the before and after gear ratio's.

4.266 LS ---------------with 4.92 final drive with 8200 max rpm
1st gear 40.28 mph ----------34.92mph
2nd gear 68.47 --------------59.37
3rd gear 102.51 -------------88.89
4th gear 134.67------------- 116.77
5th gear 175.32 -------------152.02

by the way here the YS1 gsr gear ratio
4.4 final drive
1st gear 38.14 mph
2nd gear 59.92
3rd gear 86.45
4th gear 113.94
5th gear 144.15

so what do you guys think? should i do it?

this is where i got my numbers from if you want to take a look.

4.92 sucks for daily driver without the ls 5th. highway cruising at nromal speeds at 3500-4000 ish.

if its a toy car only, go for it. quicker gears = faster car for the most part.

Yes if you put it in a b16/b17/gsr/itr/ctr that already have really short gears but in a Ls tranny the gear ratio looks dam close to the stock b16/b17/gsr/itr/ctr exedra not to short and not to long geared. It hard to find a good b16/b17/gsr/itr/ctr tranny that dont need work or they want a arm &leg for it now the Ls/Gs tranny you can pick up fairly easy for about 100.00 to 250.00 and depends who you buy the final drive from it starts from 390.00 to 550.00 and you still get a descent 5th gear. so at 3000rpm 5th gear you will be at 55.62mph.

yes, which is my point. I don't know where you live, but 55 mph is not 'average highway speed'. 75 is more average, with 80 common too. and at those speeds, yo'll be well into the 3500-4000 range as above.

40-55mph is the average for in town driving here for the freeway its 65-70mph when the cops are watching and 90+ when there are not:D
