People care because there's no end-all of measuring car performance. A 1/4-mile time is just one is a series of data that help describe just how good a car is. A 1/4-mile time should be regarded in the same light as any other performance data.

0-60, 0-100, and 0-200... yes

1/4 mile.... no

Right, because that makes so much more sense.

None of those tests are true tests to survy the performance of the car. This is why Top Gear developed a test track with the help of Lotus so the track would test high speeds, braking, tight and long sweepers, schanes, ect and then they compare the time for each car.

i care about all of it,

0-60
0-100
0-100-0 <--- one of my favs
60-0
100-0
1/4 mi
skidpad
slolem

1/4 just seems to be the uber measurement of a cars performance.

and since the McLaren F1 is the Uber-Car of the world, any production car that can beat any of its stats and still be streetable is a winner in my book.

I  the Bugatti's test of the w16. 80kmh-310kmh-80kmh ever 22 seconds (repeatedly), without ever reaching brake fade.

point is, its retarded to complain about people racing track cars in the 1/4 mile when 90% of the people on this board are racing econobox family cars in the 1/4 and autocross.

its hypocritical and a bit more then retarded.

:werd: same incident with the STI and Evo8; Best Motoring and some magazines did tests on them; the STI did the best on certain tests but when it came to the track, the Evo turned in the best times.
