Hi All
I would like the ultimate for a ZC engine. in our racing group, one cannot go over 1600 CC. I would like to use a Vtec Head on the ZC block with carbs. The VTEC valve would be activated by a shift light on the Tach. Could my idea work. I hate ECUs and computers in a race car

The VTEC head will only work on the SOHC ZC. Your best bet would be to get a D16Y8 and run high compression pistons in it- DOHC ZC pistons in a D16Y8 will yield 12.6:1 compression with a thin head gasket. A custom tuned ECU and FI is honestly the best way to go, but you can adapt a carburetor setup to it if you really want. I just hope that you're really good with carb tuning.

VTEC actuation with a tach shift light has been done- it's easy.

As for power, you can throw in a Crower stage 3 cam and make over 165-170whp with really good tuning on 12+ compression on the SOHC VTEC setup running only pump gas. Good luck.
