Put it on blocks, slap it in gear, and watch your fingers.

So its just raw? I mis-read it the first time. I dont know Ive always done it the hard way, sand-> wet-sand-> corse buffing compound-> fine compound. I really dont know of any other easier way to do it.

Getting them to "polished" after sand blasting them is a freaking chore and a half. Powder coat ftw. Done.

you can allwas have them blasted with glass bead or walnut shells it will smooth them out quite a bit before the polishing begins

Bead blasting is a good idea, but they also make sandpaper flap wheel - Google Product Search
Which should speed up the initial rough sanding.

i'll either try the flap wheel or one of those sanding pads that look like a brillow (sp?) pad that go on the cordless drill

Seriously, my first suggestion actually works. Get some wet/dry sand paper, put the vehicle on blocks, put it in gear, and apply the sand paper. You can get at least half of your sanding done in 20 minutes per wheel. 250, 400, 800, 1500 grit, then mother's mag polish (little white jar, about 5 bucks, best stuff in the world for fine polishing) Its dangerous as hell, so take the proper safety measures. E-brake and chock the wheels, tether your car to another car via tow hooks, etc.. So if it falls off the stands it'll just die instead of running off on ya. And of course, watch your hands and fingers.

I actually had a set of HX's soda blasted. They came out so smooth all I did after was scotchbrited them. The green dish pad works goood. If it's in your budget I'd have them soda blasted. Almost left mine looking like chrome.

soda blast will not take away the roughness of the corse sand it would have to be blasted in various grains to get it smooth and soda blast is like 1000 grit
