I dunno if this has been posted or not, or if this is the right forum, but I was just looking for good winter tires for my winter car (eagle talon), and was wondering what everyone uses or likes for winter tires. They dont have to be dedicated winter tires just any good tires in winter. Since I dealt with some bridgestone potenza so-3's last winter cause i was too lazy to go get new tires, and it was not fun.

i go the cheap route. this year i bought me some 55 dollar goodyear viva 2's they work great

i say go get some studded tires. you won't really notice a change in ride other than the grip. i have a set on my crx and they work great. barely any slide at all.

where are you from and how are your winters?
that is the biggest factor in what you should run for winter tires
then there is always how comfortable are you driving in the snow / ice

michelin x-ice are great in the ice/slush/hard parked snow. and still decent in the powered as well. I had these on my civic hatch. got me through a full winter in the north east no problems.

dunlop m3's are banging. I don't think i used them on any ice last season, but in the deep snow and packed snow, they are unstoppable.

I hard a hard time breaking them loose in my STI in 3rd gear. it would just pull until about 4k at full throttle, then it would break loose a little bit.

great tires. i bought them again this year for my 2.5 RS.


those are the only2 i've used, and the m3's made me happy enough with them to buy them again.

I'm from milwaukee, and my dumb ass last year ran the so-3's and blew my motor in my civic, which is a good thing I guess cause now i got a gsr swap. but i know last year in only an inch of snow or if it was under 20 degrees my car wouldn't move. Im looking to spend under 400 for the set of tires this winter and the tire size is 205/55/16. Also im still looking for a nitto 555 215/35/18 tire if anyone has one or knows where to get a good price for one on the net let me know.

I usually goto to the local hole in the wall tire shop and buy the cheapest winter tires they have. I paid 220 for 4 mounted on my Accord and they were great. Car was like a tank, I only ever had the back end slide out a lil on me once, it was a pitch change around a corner just after a snow, so its kinda expected. Luckily I practice my snow drifting religiously

snow drifting is fun...go for some studded tires. they should provide sufficient traction for your application. or a good all season tire is guardsman voyager lx's. they have baddass grip in the rain and snow. you can really push corners with them on dry and wet roads. there is virtually no slip. they are pretty cheap ( got mine for 150 bucks mounted it was 200) and they take forever to wear down.

What I'm really looking for is a tire that is pretty much all-season, but still works really well in snow. I will be driving on the tires year round, but mainly in winter and rain.

allseasons do NOthing as good as a dedicated summer, or a dedicated winter tire.

its like those hybrid bikes.
mountain bike upright, skinny road tires.

sucks on the trails
slow on the roads

but, IMO the best all seasons are dunlop sp5000's

best all season tire i have ran
they were good in dry summer conditions... decent corner stability, pretty good traction
they were very good in wet condition... virtually no hydroplaning or slipping
they were better than they had a right to be in the snow... i was flying by 4wd trucks up hills around corners whatever... actually took the car through an unplowed parking lot with 10-12 inches of snow in it and plowed right through with no problems... only got stuck 2 times with those tires... first time i was e-brake drifting and hit ice and slid nose first into a snow bank... burried the car about 3 feet into the snow bank... that took a little digging and pushing to get out..... the second time again i was e-brake drifting and cought the edge of a snow bank and was on ice... friend was coming up behind me in his S10 with the breaks locked up slid in and tapped me at about 1mph... nudged the car just enough to get it unstuck then i pulled away parked and got out to helped push my friend out of the same spot i was just stuck

i HIGHLY recommend the SP5000's to anyone looking for an excelent year round tire, or a winter tire for a place that doesnt get assloads of snow and ice

One of the key factors about snow tires is the width. If you have skinny tires, your applying the same force to a smaller area, therefore increasing the pressure applied to the slippery road. You can either increase the weight of your vechile (old sandbag trick) or get skinnier tires.

I live in the UP of michigan, It hasn't stopped snowing for the past 4 days. We get a ton of the white stuff. last year, I drove around in a 92 hatch, pretty much stripped, (2080lbs when light on gas) with Tein HA's (lowered slightly) with 185/60/14 blizzak WS50's. I could get through anything, no matter how steep the hill was, how deep the snow, I would just cut through. Well now I drive a 92 prelude, that probally weighs in at 2900lbs, so technically, I should be able to do better in the snow. I had my dad order the tires from his tire guy downstate. Well turns out he didn't listen to my requests and bought a 205/55/15 tire for my prelude in Some dunlop snow tires (forgot the name of the model) They are useless. I really dont think its the actual tire, its just the size. They are SUPER wide so I bearly get traction anywhere. It sucks.

Anyone want to buy some snow tires lol?

I might be interested in those tires if you really wanna sell them, that is the exact size i need. Let me know what the model of the tire is. I was lookin for eitehr the Dunlop sport A2's or the Dunlop SP 5000's.

I had only put snow tires on the front of my crx a few years back when we actually got a shit load of snow. I used the Kumho KW11's, the rears were some old pos no tread left on them tires, I never got stuck and I had a pretty long steep driveway to get out of nad a nasty hill to come home on When I lived near Clayton in Meriden.

Also I've nenver heard anyone complain about Bridgestone blizzacks

i personally cant stand blizzacks...
first off i just want to say they are INCREDIBLE in the snow... flat out one of the best tires out there for driving in snow
my problem with them is that when there isnt standing snow on the ground they kinda suck
they are very squirmy in dry conditions and sloppy as hell in corners (more so than any other snow tires ive driven on)
they do not deal well with wet conditions either (about as well as a really shitty all season) they slide very easily around corners... hydroplane pretty easily as well
now i know that they are a winter tire and i should not expect great things from them in all conditions (i dont, i understand that snow tires are not going to be high performance tires)...
so the main problem i have with blizzacks is not at all how they handle snow... but how poorly they handle everything else
even when we get a pretty harsh winter in southern newengland, there is not standing snow on the ground for more than a few days at a time (main roads are usually clear within a day, secondaries are clear within two, rural back roads are hit or miss some are clear within 2-3 days some never get touched) so that means that even though i need to get through snow when it happens, i will be doing much more driving on dry or wet roads than in standing snow...
so a tire that is GREAT in snow but SUCKS any other time just isnt the tire for me

so far i am very pleased with my Nokians on the insight... they handle dry and wet roads VERY well... cant wait to see how they do with snow... they are supposed to be the shit... im just waiting to find out

Yep, thats a pretty good review. For my area, I need that amount of agressiveness in the snow because a good 85% of the time, the roads are atleast frozen with a decent amount of ice or hard pack snow. If I was down state, all seasons would probally suffice.

Bridgestone Potenza RE960 Pole Positions (bleh bleh, what a mouthful) are supposed to be pretty good. I'm gonna go pick up a set in the next week or so. Been lucky so far though, hardly any snow this year.

i ran pole position so-3's last year and they were the worst tire i ever drove on in winter. i picked up some dunlop sp a2's....wanted the sp5000's but were out of my budget. these tires seem to be a lot better than my stock goodyear's.
